Lisa Rider, MD, a pediatric rheumatologist, is Head of the Environmental Autoimmunity Group, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Rider’s research spanning more than 25 years has focused on juvenile myositis, in which she has led studies that have defined the major clinical and autoantibody phenotypes, identified genetic and environmental disease risk factors, led the international development of outcome measures and clinical trial response criteria, and led clinical trials of new biologic therapies. She co-chairs the International Myositis Assessment and Clinical Studies Group (IMACS), a consortium of myositis researchers and clinicians aiming to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Rider has also been Clinical Professor of Medicine at George Washington University, where she sees patients in consultation and leads research on juvenile myositis. She has served on the medical advisory board of Cure JM Foundation, serves in the iMyoS Governance, and as an advisor to a number of myositis collaborative research groups. Dr. Rider has been a member of the Scientific Committee for all six Global Conference of Myositis meetings, and she served on the organizing committee of the first four meetings.
