Professor Lucy Wedderburn is Professor and Consultant in Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology at University College London GOS Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital, who leads a programme of translational science focusing on childhood arthritis and myositis. The Wedderburn group has provided key discoveries into mechanisms, novel treatment targets, and biomarkers of childhood arthritis and myositis. Wedderburn is CI of UK-wide Juvenile Dermatomyositis Cohort and Biomarker Study, now the largest of its kind in the world which has provided immunological , genetic, clinical and tissue pathology evidence for the mechanisms that underlie juvenile myositis. She established the UK’s Centre for Adolescent Rheumatology, led the UK-wide MRC funded Stratified Medicine Consortium in JIA, CLUSTER and is the co-lead of the groundbreaking novel study of childhood arthritis MAPJAG which is using synovial biopsy tissue analysis to define underlying mechanisms of childhood onset arthritis. Patient and family involvement is at the centre of all of the Wedderburn teams work.
