Sofia Carvalho Fernandes Barreira is a board-certified rheumatologist currently practicing at the Rheumatology Department of ULS Santa Maria, Lisbon, Portugal (since 2021). She is an invited lecturer at the University Rheumatology Clinic, Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade de Lisboa, and a researcher at the Rheumatology Research Unit of the Gulbenkian Institute of Molecular Medicine, where she has been involved in clinical and translational research since 2012. She also serves as a trainer at the Ultrasound School of the Portuguese Society of Rheumatology (ESPER). Her clinical and scientific work includes a strong focus on musculoskeletal ultrasound and procedures, rheumatoid arthritis and idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, with contributions spanning multidisciplinary care models, national registry initiatives, reflected in multiple peer-reviewed publications.
